Company

Business description: Capella is the industry leader of wavelength selective switch (WSS) technology for use in reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADM) and optical cross connect (OXC) applications. Capella’s patented WavePath® products provide the best performing WSS on the market offering dynamic, remote reconfigurability with fully integrated optical channel monitoring (OCM), essential technology for next-generation ROADMs. According to Infonetics, a leading market research firm, the ROADM-enabled equipment market size nearly reached $600 million in 2005, tripling earlier forecasts. Capella was founded in 2000. Privately held and located in San Jose, California, Capella has a seasoned management team with experience from leading telecom and technology companies. Additionally Capella has an extensive intellectual property portfolio with 21 patents issued and over 30 pending. Capella’s WavePath® products are the first intelligent wavelength selective switches (WSS) with integrated optical channel monitoring (OCM) for use in Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) and Optical Cross Connect (OXC) applications. The WavePath® products deliver the highest level of functional integration in a compact and cost effective subsystem, and support both metro and long haul applications. In addition to operating effectively independent of data transmission rate and format, WavePath products integrate typically discrete functions such as multiplexing, demultiplexing, hitless wavelength reconfiguration (allowing multiple wavelengths to be directed to any output port in any combination), dynamic channel equalization, wavelength and power monitoring, channel blocking, and channel configuration verification. With this unique architecture, Capella’s WSSs offer the only complete feature set for wavelength provisioning, monitoring and protection.
